We did these two peaks as separate up and down hikes rather than tackle the ridge in between. Both peaks had amazing 360 views. We also did a third peak, the west peak the day before from the gate on Notch road. That one had views too from cliffs just below the summit. The East peak was pretty tough for being only 0.6 miles and 600' from the road. The descent took us 45 minutes. Lots of blowdowns and steep tight woods to navigate, but I love a challenge sometimes, especially when there's a rewarding view. It was around 12 miles to get both peaks from the parking spot. We found a designated campsite back along the road with a great stream to take a dip in, one of the few streams flowing in this dry season. We were awoken at midnight by some kids out partying but they just sped away when they saw the camp spot occupied.

Parking

A signed parking area with room for a few cars before the yellow gate. We saw one atv way up on the road, they had keys to the gate. The drive in from pavement on Bald Mtn Rd was pretty smooth for a logging road, just extremely dusty as I was third behind my two hiking partners ahead.

Water Crossings

None. Well, we did hop one puddle in a ditch, if that counts.

Wildlife

None that I recall. It was a beautiful breezy day.

First of all, Bald Mountain is no longer bald. Two hikers coming down said they weren't sure they found it but according to the book, you walk right over it. Trees have been growing around it, but there are a few obstructed voews. Did this trail for tracing. It was a haul up to where it meets the Weetamoo Trail. Then it gets delightful. A lot of relatively flat gentle sections with many ledges with good views. Turned around where it meets the Liberty Trail.

Parking

.4 miles down Scott Road. Great parking lot. WMG said a small lot, but it looks like Chocorua Conservation redid the lot. They have asked not to park on the wood chips. They have been placed to protect the soft ground. This lot is for the Conservation land across the road as well.

Easy rock hops.

Wildlife

Mosquitoes were horrible in the beginning. Faded away as the day went on

Bald Mountain-Artists Bluff Path, Loop Trail

Wanted to stretch my legs on my way home from Magalloway. Trails were dry with a few went areas. Some wet ledge on the scrambles up to Bald Mountain. It's been a while since i was last on this but the Loop Trail is absolutely awful. Tons of trail creep, mud and erosion. Next time I will do the road walk back to the parking lot. Great views into the notch and of Cannon Mountain.
