Trails Used

Access Road

Trail Conditions

Dry Trail

Notes

I write this mostly to add the parking info. From the parking 'lot' we crossed the baseball field and around the pond to get to the bridge, then followed the very well maintained road to the fancy cabin. Road becomes more of an atv trail from this point to the summit, but easy to follow and good footing throughout. Bunch of logging activity and recent development in this area. Would have been lovely to drive up to the fancy cabin if not for the 'no unauthorized motor vehicles' sign at the bridge. 90 min round trip, with some excellent views of Black Mt on the descent - we waved to a certain vert monster over there.

Parking

There is designated hiker/skier dirt/grass parking along the SE edge of the Stewardship Center fields. This would be the right field foul territory for the little baseball field. There is clear signage for Pike Glades from rt 25 and Google Maps is spot on with its "Pikes Glades" location.

Water Crossings

You need to use the bridge to cross Oliverian Brook. Curious to see a brook with that name on this side of the Kanc.

Wildlife

not yet, but it was a cool/windy day

Notes

A 60-year-old hiker fell from a fire tower platform on Iron Mountain due to a loose board, sustaining a fractured ankle. NH Fish and Game and two search and rescue teams responded, carrying him down the trail to the trailhead where he was transported to the hospital.

Trails Used

Iron Moutain Road, Iron Mountain Trail

Trail Conditions

Snow - Trace/Minimal DepthWet TrailMud - Minor/Avoidable

Notes

Variety of trail conditions, patches of ice, soft snow and mud, but mostly bare trail. Not enough ice or snow that you would want to wear microspikes. Two patches of very slick ice that can be crossed with some care. There is no view from summit so be sure to plan going the extra distance to ledges were there are excellent views

Parking

Road to trail head closed. It is about a 1 mile road walk from gate to trail head. Road still had significant patches of snow so it might still be a few weeks befor eit ready to be opened

Water Crossings

No issues
