Trails Used

Coot Trail, Overlook Spur, Bobcat Trail

Trail Conditions

Dry TrailWet TrailMud - Minor/AvoidableMud - Significant

Notes

Trails were primarily dey with both being wet and muddy withing the first 10th or so from the trailhead. Coot doesn't mess around gaining the elevation quickly. I can't imagine taking a jeep up that all those years ago. Spectacular views from the fire tower and from the overlook. Some rumbles of thunder just as I was returning to my truck. Mostly cloudy with thunderstorms off in the distance. Temps in the 60s with light wind.

Parking

Lot at the end of Tower Road. Tower Road and Magalloway Road are in great shape.

Water Crossings

None

Wildlife

I was prepared for the worst and got nowhere near that. Not bad at all today. The breeze at the summit made it even better.

Trails Used

Bobcat Trail, Overlook Spur, Coot Trail

Trail Conditions

Dry TrailWet TrailMud - Minor/Avoidable

Notes

A quick trip up Magalloway while in the Pittsburg area. A pretty straightforward hike that doesn't change much. Super views from the fire tower as well as the top of the cliffs. Thought I heard someone else driving in Tower Rd. but I didn't see a soul.

Parking

At the end of Tower Rd. in Pittsburg. The most wonderful-est news is that Tower Rd. has been rebuilt/regraded/widened and is now a smooth gravel road suitable for any vehicle. Light years from what it used to be! Magalloway Rd. has one small washout (flagged) 4.4 mi. in from Rt. 3. High clearance is no problem here but regular cars should use caution.

Wildlife

Absolutely horrendous and aggressive black flies.
