Fun shakeout overnight to grab 4/5 VT peak for the kiddos. Stayed at the Glen Ellen Lodge, which was very nice. Sleeps eight and is fully enclosed with benches and a table. Thankfully we had the place to ourselves-ai imagine it’s slammed during the summer/fall and we discovered there is NO tent camping permitted. Even if you wanted to break the rule there’s nowhere to pitch a tent. Great spots for hammocking nearby though. The stream water source adjacent to the lodge was raging(still a tiny rock hop). Views are more limited than we were hoping (sunrise was barely not visible through the trees). There was plenty of standing water all over both trails from the recent downpour, and we had a surprise downpour at sunset for several hours, so things were even wetter on the way out. Jerusalem Trail is a wildflower explosion!!!! Probably the most heavily concentrated forest floor I have ever hiked through in terms of wildflowers. Until 2500’ you hike through a massive commercial sugaring operation. Not the most pleasant through here with all the tubing and blah trail but the flowers made up for it!!! only saw a few people down low and no one on ridge. Only One patch of stubborn snow about eight feet long:)
Parking
Roadside parking was ample
Water Crossings
None
Wildlife
Plenty of buggers below 2500’ in the hardwoods but thankfully they aren’t biting YET!!!
