Trails Used

Middle Mountain Trail, Peaked Mountain Trail

Trail Conditions

Dry TrailMud - Minor/Avoidable

Notes

Some ice in the flats down low, but otherwise this out-and-back route was almost snow/ice free (one small patch in the shade below the junction). I suspect Middle Mountain still has snow/ice due to the north-facing ascent (could see snow in the woods from Peaked). Some muck, but not too bad. Snowshoes and traction will be superfluous on this route from here on out unless we get some sort of frozen precip event. North-facing trails nearby may still be another story for now. This route is now just under 2 miles after a recent relo on the Peaked Mountain Trail, which adds a viewpoint. Beautiful bluebird spring day with temperatures in the 50s and a slight breeze.

Parking

Limited space with no overflow, but found a spot early this afternoon.

Equipment

Microspikes

Notes

Hodgepodge of shoulder season conditions, made a little sloppy from an inch or two of new snow overnight that was melting in the 40ish degree temperatures and partial morning sunshine. A few pockets of foot deep snow up high, but not prolonged enough to justify snowshoes. Some stretches of ice monorail, and a few areas of blue ice. Some stretches of wet trail and mud. Managed to bareboot to the summit, but needed spikes to descend. Nice directional views from the summit ledges, ranging from Mt. Abram to some of the iced over ponds to the east.

Parking

Grabbed the last open spot at the Maggie's Nature Park lot (otherwise filled with ice fisherman trucks).

Water Crossings

Minor (bridged).
