Trails Used

Haystack Notch, Myles Notch, Red Rock, Bickford Brook & Spruce Hill Trails

Trail Conditions

Dry TrailWet/Slippery RockMud - Minor/Avoidable

Notes

If you need (for tracing) or are just itching to hike/run the Haystack Notch Trail, now seems like the time. Low and easy water crossings, and fairly good and intuitive route-finding, even in the wilderness area today. The rest of the trails were more well-traveled and posed little to no route-finding issues. An excellent day was had in this fantastic area of the Caribou-Speckled Wilderness.

Parking

Plenty of parking at the East Royce/Spring Hill TH and the 3ish spots south of the Haystack TH were empty.

Water Crossings

All were very low and easily rock-hoppable.

Wildlife

A couple of bees at the Red Rock outlook. None otherwise.

Trails Used

Red rock, great brook, miles notch

Trail Conditions

Wet/Slippery RockMud - Minor/AvoidableMud - Significant

Notes

More signs of bear/moose than humans outside the logging. Extremely difficult navigation- would not have been possible to complete this in any sort of decent time without closely following GPS.following a paper map w/compass would take significant time. Great trail, needs a leaf blower, chain saw, and some blazes remarked.

Parking

Gate closed. Parked at cemetery. Area neighbors extremely friendly.

Water Crossings

A lot of water, but not unusual for this time of year. Can hop across all crossings. Trail is a full on stream at moments

Wildlife

Ticks are out in force!
