Notes
South Loon is now on the list, now that LiDAR says it has 200’ prominence. Only 8 sign-ins in 26 years. I had a great whack from the Russell Peaks which were very easy. I found some tight spruce towards the top heading on up on a direct bearing from East Russell. On the way down I stayed more SE on the spine and found it much better going. Very open on the top too, only thick on the steep areas. I imagine it gets thick again going toward the ski area. Snow was frozen today, but if it warms up you’ll need snowshoes. This report will get edited anyway if I say I didn’t bring them. It is plenty deep enough for them up at the summits. The road alternated between bare asphalt, glare ice, or 6” deep snow. I was able to jog most of it. Not going to be fun when it warms up.
