Trails Used

Stinson Mountain Trail, snowmobile trail

Trail Conditions

Dry TrailWet TrailMud - Minor/Avoidable

Notes

Stinson Mtn. with Over The Hill Hikers today. Took the hiking trail up and the snowmobile trail all the way down to the trailhead. Overall, this entire route was far drier than what I was expecting based on recent reports, even the snowmobile trail. The upper portion of that trail can get pretty swampy. Some mud around, but all of it was easily stepped through or over. Summit ledges were dry. MUCH cooler temps today and the breeze was nice.

Parking

This is a small lot. Please don't leave huge spaces between vehicles so others can park there too.

Wildlife

Some, but the cooler temps and breeze mostly kept them away.

Notes

Met 5 other hikers on the trail. The summit had great views. Took the small side path from the snowmobile trail just before the summit to get to the Stinson lake overlook. Great views and got lucky and missed the showers, could see the storm clouds and showers from the summit.

Parking

Parked at the Stinson Mtn, trail head, plenty of parking.

Water Crossings

No issues with water crossings.

Wildlife

Lots of Black Flies, thanks to the winds not a major issue.

Trails Used

Stinson Mountain Trail

Trail Conditions

Wet TrailIce - Breakable CrustMud - Minor/Avoidable

Equipment

Microspikes

Notes

spotty areas of snow that get more dense as you get higher up. small bit of monorailing here and there. Took the hiking trails up and the snowmobile trails down. Snow was generally very solid so no concerns about post holing. Did the first 3/4 mile bare booted but put on microspikes to the top from there to make things easier. Similar on the way down. Seems like some of these chunks of snow could be here for a couple more weeks. Also of note there was some flowing water on the lower half of the trail which resulted in some areas of mud too, not a problem with waterproof boots. All in conditions may have been more favorable as it had dropped into the 20s overnight so everything seemed to be hardened up.

Parking

empty today

Water Crossings

some running water near the bottom of the trail but nothing too bad
