Trail Conditions

Dry TrailMud - Minor/Avoidable

Water Crossings

Nothing major, all easily hoppable

Wildlife

There is a wasp nest on North Carter trail about 50 feet above the Imp trail split. It is on the southern side of the trail (right going up; left going down). There were several stings in our party, many multiple times. They were angry today, we heard of a couple others that were stung and tried to warn those on the trail.

Trails Used

Nineteen mile brook, zeta pass, Carter Moriah trail, north Carter trail, imp trail, road

Trail Conditions

Dry TrailWet TrailIce - BlueWet/Slippery RockMud - Minor/Avoidable

Equipment

Microspikes

Notes

The weather today was *chefs kiss*. We didn’t use traction until almost 3 miles in. Loads of ice - snow shoes were overkill. We encountered an extremely aggressive grouse going up to Carter dome as an fyi. The ice going down north Carter trail to Imp was very thick for extended periods of the trail (traction definitely needed!). We did Imp face which was a delight! Adds a few miles and a lot more fun.

Water Crossings

Water was low enough to rock hop without incident

Notes

Echo and I scored with a hike to Imp Face, this morning. Pretty views, grippy snow (though thin cover) and no wind. I was happy to stay in my snowshoes; whatever you choose right now know that the sketchy ice floes are not that far underneath the new snow. I love hiking in snow and am a little bummed that the season is ending!
