Trail Conditions
Notes
So glad I did this from this side some beautiful water features with the streams and rivers full. Trail is in good condition although it’s confusing with orange and blue blazes on Carlo Col trail. The hut is original with a doorway and skylights. When we got to the AT I wanted to go right to summit Carlo Col but it’s very large boulders with ice between so I wasn’t comfortable taking my dogs up, didn’t want them to get jammed into a bad situation. The AT was fun, lots of varied terrain, when you get a view of goose eye it looks so far away but goes quick until the rungs and ladder. The dogs got around the rungs but I had to help one climb the ladder. Getting to Goose Eye I could see the storm coming in so we left after a quick break. Going down the Summit trail to the Goose Eye trail is very steep and slow going. I believe as soon as we crossed into NH it started raining and the dogs didn’t love it, it was pouring by the time we finished but so worth it, great day.
Parking
Came in from rte 26 after attempting the Berlin end a couple weeks ago and found it locked, Back road is the way in which leads to Success pond road, small lot off the road for 3-5 cars.
Water Crossings
A few no problems crossing
Wildlife
Leaving Oxford there was a fresh herd of black flies but none up there.
